It took a while to
"It took a while to find these pods and only on L'OR's website. I first tried them in a variety set of pods Since then I have only been able to get the Onyx pods (intensity 12) through Amazon. The maximum intensity in the supermarkets are 11, so they fall short for the serious coffee drinkers, like myself I am so happy to have found these Ultimo's available on their own, on the L'OR website as they are my favourite, with a 13 intensity. To give one a good idea as to how strong and intensity 13 is, there is a famouse coffee shop (about six branches) in Addis Ababa. It's very popular for it's intense espressos. Considering it is the capital city of the nation where coffee originated, the locals can only handle a single shot, I go for a double treble. The Ultimo pods produce a strength (intensity) around 20% stronger than that coffee shop, which is why I like these. When using these pods I only use 30ml, sometimes 35ml of water so the drink is quite powerful and perfect for my taste. However, as with all intensities, if the strength (intensity) is too much simply increase the water to 40ml or even 50ml per pod. I am going through a lot of these pods, about 16 per day but luckily I ordered 200 of them. The only negative point, which applies to all pods, roast beans, roasted ground and coffee shop coffees is that they don't use the best beans available. Many know of Yergechef coffee and have been led to believe it's a premium bean when actually it isn't. Ethiopia has many different beans, including common Arabic a beans but the highest quality doesn't reach the West. I have my two favourites, of which to protect them I won't name the beans. They are the highest possible quality and quite expensive there (the cheapest I can get is £6 per kilo). The intensity is very high and they have unique natural flavour. I don't know where L'OR source their coffee but seriously it is a good coffee that is perfectly roasted. That is one area most coffee drinkers don't even know about. The roast is critical,as is the grind. For good espressos one requires a very dark toast (black) and a fine grind. Get the roast and the grind wrong and even the best of beans will taste bad. The lighter the roast the more bitter the drink is. L'OR certainly knows their coffee as unlike coffee shop coffees one can drink this coffee without the masses of artificial sweeteners and creamers. I do like sugar in my coffee but that is more to do with traditional Ethiopian coffee that should be consumed very strong yet sweet. For those that are similar to myself, the jump through intensity 10 and 13 is only slight between each level. However, what is slight to us is a huge difference for most tastes. Should you be used to an intensity 10 or below I would advise that you go up one intensity at a time, until you reach these Ultimo's as a jump from intensity 10 and below to a level 13 will be too much and you'll never get to enjoy that intensity as you won't drink it again. One really good reason I only use L'OR pods now is not so much the quality of the coffee but also the quality of the pods. I've tried many brands and all have failure rates of 25% or more. The worst I've had was an Italian brand that had a fail rate of a whopping 80%. That meant I would be scraping 4 out of every 5 pod lids from inside the pod holder and washing the grounds out. The L'OR pods have a 0% fail rate for me, so far. I'm still trying to get that one pod that fails. If you are serious coffee drinker and like your coffee as strong as it can be then I recommend the Ultimo pods as they really do taste like one has a coffee going down one's throat. For those not so hardcore I would advise to start with either Foza (intensity 9) or Supremo (intensity 10) and make your way up to the Ultimo. The L'OR pods are good value when considering one can make a coffee shop coffee at home for less than 50p."
